last spring Ellen and I had an art retreat here at my home. We played around with plaster as a medium. Here are the results of my playing.
This is a piece on the left I did using plaster on a board but then added melted crayons to it using a heat gun to move the colors around.

The next piece on the right is also done with plaster but layered on a piece of burlap and then when dried rolled and cracked. After that I glued it onto a piece of plywood and using paint I stained it so the cracks would show up. Then I etched it and stained it again and then used a darker paint around the edges. When the paint and sain looked the way I like I used a candle and burned the burlap on the edges to age it...

This next one is a favorite of mine. Made in the same way as the others but the image is what I especially like. I painted the plaster and then scraped it and then re painted it with a different color and scraped it again. I kept doing this until I liked the look and then painted black over the whole image and really scraped it hard to expose all the different colors but leaving a heavier coat of black on edges...after it was completed I etched the cross image into it.
