CELEBRATING CONNECTIONS .. LIFE BOOK 2013

Today, after too much time I finally finished my first class on 'Gratitude. It started out as a blank page which I covered with writings of all the things I am grateful for. Then I covered the writing with three colors of acrylic paint diluted to a water color consistency so some of the writing would show through. After that it was a ongoing  process of using paper, tape, stamps and whatever else I could think of to collage the page. Then I took citra papers I had made previously and wrote a note of gratitude to everyone in my life and rolled them into tubes which I then glued into place to form a heart. I collaged over the heart to cover all the spaces and unify it then dry brushed over that with various colors of acrylic paints. I cut a flower from a greeting card and glued it to the corner and  drew vines of leaves with a marker then added a few words to the back ground.  Here is the end result. I am grateful it is finished!

I am adding one more photo to this entry. When  I posted this art work I thought I had finished but my friend wrote and suggested to me that the banner 'gratitude' would look better if it were not square cut and if it were tilted a bit...I agreed with her but said I didn't know if I could do that since it was glued down...then mentioned it was covering a hole in my heart...She promptly wrote back and said she knew I had a hole in my heart since the passing of a close friend that had spend each Friday with me doing and talking...I didn't realize until then how much my 'down' time coincided with the day each week she spent with me. So yes Ruth Schowalter...art does heal. She was a very negative but creative person and I am grateful for the days we spent together. It taught me patience, tolerance and appreciation. Here is the newly trimmed banner...I agree, it does look better and the hole in my heart is still covered with "gratitude".

This next week of connections started out as writing with a marker, on a page of my feelings of all the people I am connected with in any way. After covering the whole page with writing I used paint, ink and markers to cover all the writing. I used various items, including mesh from an onions skin bag, stencils, sponges, stamps to make the marks and give it texture. When it was done to my satisfaction I used some ivory colored acrylic paint to rough in the area where the faces will go.

Then using paints I painted in the girls, and finished the faces.

Then I collaged in these favorite snips of paper

And added this writing with marker on the other side
